Tour Magnificent Western Malaysia

Visit impressive, notable attractions during tours of Malacca, Kuala Lumpur & Kuala Selangor — plus possible monkey, eagle & firefly sightings!

About Your Trip

Delve into the historic and the modern as you journey in and around Kuala Lumpur — Malaysia’s Garden City of Lights. Your first outing takes you to Malacca, a popular destination thanks to its amazing UNESCO-protected landmarks. Start at A Famosa fort, built in 1511 and said to be one of the oldest European architectural remains in southeast Asia. Then, it’s off to Stadthuys and Christ Church, which are excellent examples of Dutch architecture. You’ll also venture to St. Paul’s Church, a hilltop ruin, for panoramic views of the city. At Masjid Selat Melaka, you’ll marvel at this beautiful mosque built at sea level along the Strait of Melaka, before heading to famed Jonker Street to take in its historical houses, shops and food stalls. Your day tour also includes a relaxing Melaka River cruise and a trishaw ride. Then, before dinner, you’ll be treated to a performance of “Encore Melaka” that uses dance and music to tell a spectacular story.

During your next tour, you’ll visit the town of Kuala Selangor, home to remains of a fort built in the 1770s, an execution block, a royal mausoleum and colonial-era buildings. It’s also the home to silvered leaf monkeys that freely roam the area. From there, it’s time for eagle-watching and a boat ride to see fireflies light up the night sky.

The following day, you’ll explore the cultural side of Kuala Lumpur. Start with a photo opportunity in front of the 88-floor Petronas Twin Towers, the world’s tallest twin structures. Downtown, you’ll also visit the former national palace, now known as the Royal Museum. At Kuala Lumpur Tower, head to the observation deck for a spectacular view of the city. Next up is Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) where you can see notable historic buildings and visit Kuala Lumpur City Gallery — check out its amazing photos, paintings and a large-scaled model of the city.

What we love:
• Malacca’s historic city center is designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
• Jonker Street is famous for its variety of delectable fare — enjoy the enticing fragrances of local favorites, including chicken rice balls, assam laksa, pineapple tarts and other traditional Nyonya cuisine.
• The Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is a museum set in a colonial-era building built more than 100 years ago.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

Destination

Old and new collide in Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Metal high-rises tower over colorful markets. Hawkers peddle their wares on the steps of high-end shopping malls and modern restaurants. Malaysian tigers prowl the dense, exotic jungles just outside the city, and equally exotic islands are just a boat ride away.

Known as “KL” by its residents, Kuala Lumpur boasts an impressive array of sightseeing attractions, including the nearly 1,483-foot-tall (452-meter-tall) Petronas Twin Towers, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the National Mosque of Malaysia. The cuisine is highly influenced by both Indian and Chinese flavors, though much of the street food reflects Javanese, Arabian, Thai, Sumatran and Japanese.
